Pashto poet defends PhD thesis
PESHAWAR: Well known poet and chairman of the Department of Pashto at the Islamia College, Abaseen Yousafzai, on Friday successfully defended his PhD thesis.
Prof Abdul Waheed Khan was his supervisor. Prof Dr Yar Muhammad Maghmoom was the external examiner.
The title of the thesis was “Concept of nationality in the poetry of Hamza Shinwari”.
The scholar responded to the questions by the examiner, intellectuals and others present on the occasion. Abaseen Yousafzai joined the Islamic College Peshawar as a lecturer in 1993. He has attended several conferences on the Pashto language and literature in the country and abroad. His literary career spans over 40 years.
Abaseen Yousafzai has many books to his credit. His first book, Ghorzanguna, was published in 1994. He has been contributing articles to various newspapers besides performing as TV anchor for various Pashto programmes.
