Transgenders seek security from police

MANSEHRA: Divisional President of the Shemale Association Hazara, Maria Khan, on Thursday urged the government and police to take action against the culprits involved in the theft from the house of a transvestite and provide security and protection to transgender people in the area.

Talking to reporters, Maria Khan said that a gang of thieves had sneaked into the house of the transvestite, Sehrash, and had taken away gold, cash and cell-phone sets at Buttpull area on Wednesday night.

“We have repeatedly requested police to provide us protection against criminals who frequently attack our community people and snatch our earnings,” the association head added. Maria Khan, who was accompanied by divisional secretary general Nadra Khan, and a group of transvestites, said that a gang of five robbers, including Khizar, Kala, Kamran and two others broke into the house of Sehrash at night and decamped with Rs120,000, gold ornaments and mobile phone sets.

She said the police had arrested the accused and recovered some of the stolen items but most of them were still missing.Maria Khan said that the group was also involved in attack on another transvestite Kashi in which she sustained bullet injuries.

She said that theft cases and attacks on their community people had increased drastically in recent months but the government and police seemed oblivious to take prompt action against the accused and provide security to them.
