Pak team to participate in world road cycling championship

PESHAWAR: First time in the history of the Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) a team will participate in the world road cycling championship.

Syed Azhar Ali Shah, secretary general of the Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF), told The News that the team would comprise of two cyclists and a manager. He said Nisar Ahmad is the manager of the team. The cyclists are Mohsin Khan from (SSGC) and Hafiz Tahir Mahmood (WAPDA).  

Both the cyclists will participate in individual time trial Road World Cycling Championships in Doha (Qatar) today (October 12). Syed Azhar Ali Shah said the Pakistani team consists of the cyclists selected through open individual trials in Islamabad. He said it was an honour for the PCF to participate in the World Cycling Championship.

The office-bearer said the contest would provide the team exposure. He said the participation would help Pakistani cyclists improve skills and techniques according to world cycling standards.

Syed Azhar Ali Shah praised the PCF newly elected office-bearers who, he said, were working for promotion of cycling in Pakistan. He said it was due to their efforts that Pakistan National Cycling team was participating in the world championship for the first time.

He said the PCF national coach Sardar Nazakat Ali and national cyclist Fiza Riaz would return to Pakistan on October 16 after completing 40 days training of level coaching at World Cycling Training Camp at Seoul, South Korea, which was organised by Korean Cycling Federation and Union Cyclists International.
