Waste recycling plant to be set up in Sahiwal
LAHORE: A seminar on ‘Waste Segregation & Recycling Facilities’ was held by the Urban Unit with an aim to discuss waste segregation and recycling in Pakistan while seeking expert international opinion from Turkey’s leading firms in the segregation business.
The idea is to move beyond landfills in Pakistan through diverting the recyclables and organic wastes for economic recovery. Diverting waste from landfill is one inevitable factor for improving the use of resources and reducing the environmental impacts of waste management. “The Punjab government is going to establish first of its kind waste segregation and recycling plant in Sahiwal city. This is expected to be an innovative treatment and disposal facility that will set the example to be followed by rest of the big urban centres in the province,” Dr Kiran Farhan said after she gave a detailed presentation on Sahiwal Treat & Disposal Plant.
