LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Siraj-ul-Haq on Friday said Imam Hussain (RA)’s mission was the establishment of the rule of law with equal rights for all citizens, a system based on Shoora (consultation).

In a country established for Islam, the rulers had thrust a system based on tyranny and exploitation, exactly opposite to the message of Karbala which was to fight against oppression and tyranny, he said while delivering Friday sermon at Mansoora Masjid.

Siraj-ul-Haq said the passage of a so-called Honour Killing Bill by the joint session of the parliament in conflict with Quran and Sunnah proved that the ruling party was out to demolish the ideological boundaries of the country. He said denying the right of compromise to the parties in the cases of honour killings was repugnant to divine injunctions, and added that any law in conflict with the Shariah would not be tolerated.

He said the controversial Bill should have been referred to the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) for advice and deplored that a suggestion to this by the JI and other parties had not been accepted. He said the Bill had challenged the position of CII. He said the Constitution did not permit such a law and the ruling party and PPP should have respected the Constitution.

He said the message of Imam Hussain (RA) to the Ummah was not to yield before tyranny and injustice. Therefore, he said, all those who loved Imam Hussain (RA) would have to stand against tyranny. He said Imam Hussain never desired power. Instead, his struggle was for the rule of Holy Quran and Sunnah and he sacrificed his entire family for this great cause. Imam Hussain’s everlasting message to the believers was not to bow before tyranny and not refrain from laying down one’s life for the revival and survival of the Shariah system.

Siraj-ul-Haq pointed out that PPP’s founder ZA Bhutto had never imposed his socialist ideology on the country in respect of the sentiments of the nation and the PPP should follow the tradition set by its founder and not become a party to any legislation repugnant to Holy Quran and Sunnah.
