Sale of fake drugs in public transport vehicles on the rise

The sale of fake drugs in public transport vehicles is on the rise as commuters having no idea of their ill effects continue to become victims of this illegal trade.

"When we stop our bus on traffic signals, some people carrying boxes of medicines get into vehicles. They give introduction and urge commuters to buy their drugs to get rid of chronic diseases," said Nauman Ahmad, a conductor of a mini-bus.

He said they never stop such people from selling their drugs in the vehicle as it is their only source of income.

It is pertinent to mention here that the use of fake and spurious drugs being sold in public transport vehicles have adversely been affecting the health of people who rely on them due to their limited financial resources.

Arshad Mughal, a commuter, said poverty and price hike force the people to turn towards the substandard material being sold as medicine by deceitful persons.

"When a person deceitfully explains advantages of a drug in a bus and offers it on nominal prices, commuters consider it a better choice to fight diseases," he said.

He said the government must take measures to keep vigil over the vendors who sell out home-made medicines in buses that are believed to have been affecting the health of thousands of people annually.
