Chandio asks media to create awareness of proposed law’s benefits
Adviser to Chief Minister on Information Moula Bux Chandio has impressed upon the media the need to realise their due responsibility to create awareness among the masses about the benefits of the Rights to Information Bill 2016 tabled in the Sindh Assembly last week.
He was addressing as keynote speaker a conference, titled “Provincial Rights to Information Laws: Issues and Challenges”, here on Wednesday. The adviser categorically said that the enactment of the right to information law was the need of time. “But I am of the personal opinion that still more betterment could be brought about after consulting [on the proposed bill] with all the stakeholders and brainstorming, if required,” he added.
Chandio said that the foremost and significant element with regard to the right to information law was its even implementation and for this purpose a joint effort would be required. “Civil Society and media should join hands with the government for implementing the Right to Information Laws in letter and spirit.”
The adviser disclosed that maximum possible endeavours had been poured in for drafting the bill and now the standing committee was examining it to finalise it as per the aspirations of the masses. “We all are here to work together and jointly eradicate the social evils from the society so as to make it a worth-living place for the common man.”
The conference, organised by the Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives, was also addressed amongst others by legislators from the Baluchistan Assembly and senior journalists.
