Woman slaughtered for ‘honour’

A 20-year-old woman became Pakistan's umpteenth victim of skewed patriarchal notions of so-called honour as she was murdered by her husband after the couple had a fight at the residence of the man’s uncle in Quaid-e-Azam Colony on Tuesday. The incident was, as per the police, an ‘honour killing’.

Mudafa Begum’s throat was slit with a dagger by her husband, Nasir, ‘because of her relationship with another person’, claimed Mobina Town police official. The man later wrapped her body in shopping bags and left it at the crime scene.

The victim had left for her parent’s house a few days ago after the two had a quarrel in their Abdullah Shah Goth residence, in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, claimed SHO Mobina Town Changez Khan.

The husband had taken the wife to his uncle’s residence after apologising to her at her parent’s house. 

The deceased belonged to the Hazara community and had contracted a love marriage with the accused three years ago.  Her body was taken to the JPMC for medico-legal formalities.

Body found

A decomposing body of an unidentified man appearing to be 40 years of age was found in apartment No-203/C situated in Khadda Market, within the Gizri police station.

According to medico-legal officer of the JPMC the man had died of natural causes five days ago; however, his viscera was preserved for chemical examination.
