Cop injured in Shikarpur suicide attack dies

KARACHI: The Namaz-e-Janaza of Shaheed policeman Rafiq Qureshi, who got injured in a bomb blast in Shikarpur on the Eid day, was offered at the SSU headquarters here on Friday. It was attended by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Pakistan Rangers Sindh Director General Maj Gen Bilal Akbar, IGP, senior officials, relatives and friends of the deceased.

A police spokesman said IGP AD Khowaja praised the bravery of the martyred policeman in the line of duty. He also announced a grant of Rs5 million, plot, job in police department and monthly salary till retirement to the heirs of the martyred policeman. In this regard, the IGP issued special directives to senior police officials concerned. 

According to another report, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari declared Rafiq Qureshi, a Sindh policeman, a national hero. He intercepted a suicide bomber in Shikarpur and suffered critical wounds in the ensuing blast and passed away at a hospital.

In a statement on Friday, Bilawal paid tributes to Rafiq Qureshi for his gallantry who risked his own life to save hundreds of others at the Eid congregation in Khanpur Town. He also sympathised with the family of the martyr and assured them that the PPP and its government would not leave them alone.
