LAHORE: A team of Google executives from Singapore visited Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) to hold a session on ‘Google for Publishers.’
According to a press release issued on Friday, the team comprised Waqas Burney, manager, Strategic Online Partnerships for Web, South Asia, Ahmad Shah Nawaz, manager, Strategic Online Partnerships for Mobile Apps, South Asia, and Ms Cymone Ding, University Programmes Specialist, China and Southeast Asia.
LUMS Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr S. Sohail H Naqvi, faculty members from Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) and Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB) were present on the occasion.
The session on ‘Google for Publishers’ was held with the students. The Google team shared insights on multiple topics of importance in today’s digital world. Waqas Burney, who is LUMS MBA, 2011, introduced Google’s range of monetisation products such as AdSense and AdMob. He educated the students on how writers, bloggers, web designers and app developers could harness their passion and earn profit from their online content. Burney also shared various global and local success stories, and highlighted best practices for successful monetisation.
Ms Cymone Ding also educated the students on careers at Google. She informed them that Google Asia Pacific was recruiting software engineers and strongly encouraged them to take the APAC University Test.
The Google team also honoured Marium Rasheed, a LUMS senior year student, who was awarded the ‘Google Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship’ this year. The scholarship is granted to women in computing, recognising their extraordinary accomplishments and potential in the field. Since 2013, Marium has been the fourth student from LUMS who was awarded this scholarship.
Earlier, a meeting was held between Dr Naqvi and the Google team and various aspects of the institute and its achievements were discussed. Dr Naqvi stressed that, being a world class technology driven institute, LUMS was a natural strategic partner of the technology giant, Google. Further collaborations were also explored as this meeting was a continuation of the earlier visit by the Google Asia Pacific management to establish business and technology ties with LUMS. The team from Google also visited SBASSE and SDSB.
