Online voting for expatriates doable, says Nadra
ISLAMABAD: National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) on Tuesday informed the Sub Committee of Electoral Reforms Committee that online voting by 8 million overseas Pakistanis was possible and doable.
The Committee met here under the Chair of Zahid Hamid at Parliament House and attended by MNAs and officials of NADRA and Election Commission.Briefing media about details of the meeting Zahid Hamid said first overseas Pakistanis would be registered with NADRA and then their Biometrics Impression would be recorded.
The expatriates would then be issued a secret code after which they would be able to cast their votes through their registered mobile number using the given code, he said.The electoral body also agreed to hand over the registration and election process for overseas Pakistanis to NADRA, he added.
NADRA officials told the committee that they had the capacity to register 140,000 overseas Pakistanis, Zahid Hamid informed. He said the committee had also asked the NADRA officials to provide details of the registration process within two weeks.
