Terrorists defeated on all fronts, says official in Mingora

MINGORA: General Officer Commanding, Malakand division, Major General Asif Ghafoor Sunday said the terrorists had been defeated on all fronts in the country.Speaking at the Independence Day function in Khwazakhela here, he said that security forces were ready to lay down their lives for the defence of the motherland.Minister for Sports and Culture Mehmood Khan, district nazim Muhammad Ali Shah and other civil and military officials were also present on the occasion. He lauded the sacrifices of the people of Swat for the restoration of peace in the valley and added that a handful of terrorists could not terrorise the nation. Schoolchildren presented tableau and sang national anthem. Folksingers also entertained the participants of the function. He also visited Cadent College and inspected parade at the college. He distributed prizes and shields among the cadets.

 

Member of banned outfit held

GUJRANWALA: The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) on Saturday arrested a member of a banned organisation.A CTD team raided on a hideout on Sialkot Road and arrested accused Zaid Ghafoor alias Abu Dajjana of Sialkot. The CTD team also recovered objectionable religious material, including books and CDs, from the accused person. The police registered a case against him. Later, the accused was presented before a court and the judge granted his five-day physical remand.

 

Lawyer shot dead

FAISALABAD: A lawyer was gunned down at Judicial Colony on Sunday night. An electrician who was decorating Humayun Wahla’s Gatwala farmhouse reportedly shot him dead on the night of the Independence Day. He was laid to on Monday. The lawyers held a condolence meeting and did not appear in the courts to express their resentment against the murder of their colleague. They demanded the CPO to depute a special team to arrest the killer.

 

Girl abducted

DASKA: A girl was allegedly abducted in the City police limits here on Sunday.The daughter of Muhammad Siddiq, a student of ninth class, was standing at the gate of her house when some unidentified accused allegedly abducted her. Later, relatives of the girl protested against the incident and blocked the Sialkot-Gujranwala Road in protest.

 

Jaitley to attend Saarc FMs meet in Islamabad

ISLAMABAD: Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is likely to attend the Saarc Finance Ministers Conference in Islamabad on August 25 and 26. There are chances of gracious handshakes between Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and his Indian counterpart, sources said. The government has finalised arrangements for the upcoming Saarc conference. Earlier, Ishaq Dar had chaired a meeting to review arrangements for the conference.

 

Man stoned to death by wife in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: A man was stoned to death by wife over domestic disputes here on Monday. Police said that a woman disgruntled over domestic disputes and torture of husband attacked with bricks and killed him in Ibrahim Town Baghbanpura Police Station jurisdiction in Gujranwala. The body was shifted to hospital for postmortem. The police arrested the murderer woman and after registering a case against him started the investigation.

 

PAF-UAV makes emergency recovery near Sargodha 

ISLAMABAD: A Pakistan Air Force UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), while on a routine training mission, has made an emergency recovery near Sargodha. No loss of civilian life and property has been reported on ground. According to a PAF spokesperson, a board of inquiry has been ordered by the Air Headquarters to determine the cause of accident.          

 

Over Rs5.97 bn Nowshera budget presented

NOWSHERA: The district government on Monday presented budget for the fiscal 2016-17 with a total outlay of more than Rs5.97 billion. District Nazim Liaqat Khattak presented the budget during the ongoing session held with Naib Nazim Ashfaq Ahmad in the chair. He said that more than Rs4.325 billion in the budget had been allocated for payment of salaries while Rs249.9 million for other non-development expenditures. The nazim said that Rs462.7 million in the budget was earmarked for carrying out uplift work in the district.

 

Families of stranded Pakistanis compensated

HANGU: Five families of the labourers stranded in Saudi Arabia received cheques worth Rs50,000 each, an official said on Monday. Baitul Mal officer in Orakzai Agency Zafar Iqbal distributed the cheques among the families of the labourers. The families of Said Omar, Muhammad Sultan, Abdul Qayyum, Muhammad Khan and Washa Khan received the cheques. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has approved a compensation package of Rs500 million for families of Pakistani workers stranded in Saudi Arabia.

 

Three members of a family drown

MANSEHRA: Three members of a family drowned in Kunhar River near Balakot on Monday, police said. Station House Officer (SHO) of Balakot Arshad Khan told reporters that three bodies were fished out and dispatched to their native town in Punjab. According to police, Safia slipped into Kunhar River near Hassa and her mother Shazia Naveed jumped into the water to protect her daughter, but she was also drowned by the tidal wave. Dr Naveed Asif in an attempt to protect his wife and daughter jumped into the river but he also met the same fate. Arshad Khan told reporters that the family had come to Kaghan valley and were on their way back to native town in Dera Ghazi Khan when the tragic accident happened. The officials said that Momina Noor (6) and her elder brother would accompany the bodies, which would be received by their family members in Dera Ghazi Khan.

 

Two arrested for sheltering criminal

MARDAN: The police have arrested two men in the limits of Par Hoti Police Station on the charges of sheltering their brother, who was allegedly involved in terrorist activities, police said. The police were informed that a suspected militant and proclaimed offender Ismail alias Abbas, a resident of Par Hoti, was present in his house. A police party headed by Sub-Inspector Shakeel Khan raided the house. The police said that suspected militant escaped from the spot. Police party arrested Mohammad Rehman and Gul Rehman, brothers of the suspected militant, for allegedly sheltering him. The police registered a case against the arrested brothers on the complaint of SI Shakeel Khan.

 

28 injured in traffic accident

LANDIKOTAL: At least 28 people, including 18 children, were injured when a truck carrying an Afghan family from Peshawar overturned near Michini checkpost in Landikotal tehsil of Khyber Agency, sources said on Monday. The sources said that a truck (K-3764) was on its way to Jalalabad from Peshawar. It went out of control when negotiating a sharp turn Michini hills. At least 28 persons, including 18 children, of different ages and women were injured. The injured were rushed to Agency Headquarters Hospital in Landikotal.
