Karachi

In what the Pak Sarzameen Party described as its step towards entering national-level politics, the party stage its Independence Day celebration rally in Karachi on Friday, but its step to show its muscle on a working day on a major thoroughfare, Sharea Faisal, completely blocking one track of the road, caused commuters to suffer in a massive traffic gridlock for hours not only there, but on other arteries of city too including University Road, Jail Road, and New MA Jinnah Road.

Guarded by Rangers and police, the rally culminated at the Mazar-e-Quaid after starting from the party’s headquarters, Pakistan House, in PECHS. Addressing its participants at the Mazar-e-Quaid, PSP chairman Mustafa Kamal said the participation in great numbers in the “Jashn-e-Pakistan” rally showed that the citizens of Karachi had given their mandate to his party.

“The citizens have rejected those who had called for not celebrating this Independence Day in a befitting manner,” he added.

“We have to save Pakistan; our forefathers had rendered great sacrifices for this country and we will do so as well.”

The PSP chief, who accompanied by PSP leader Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Waseem Aftab, and Raza Haroon, said the coming Independence Day should be celebrated with grand festivities as it was necessary to do so considering the critical phase the Pakistan was passing through.

“This Independence Day is very important as terrorists are carrying out attacks in different parts of the country and the PSP is ready to assist the law-enforcement agencies in eliminating the bane of terrorism.”

National-level politics

Kamal said through the Jashn-e -Pakistan rally, the PSP had entered national-level politics.

“We have now stepped into mainstream politics,” he added.

He said the PSP through this rally wanted to show that many people from across the country had joined the party.

Kamal lauded the role of Rangers in restoring peace in Karachi. However, he criticised the provincial government for failing to serve the people of Karachi and the city tuning into a garbage den because of negligence.

Joining hands

Kamal said the PSP wanted join hands with each and every person, no matter if they also belonged to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement.

“The objective of the rally is to bring people together and join hands for the solidarity and integrity of Pakistan.”

Kamal said the youth of Karachi were joining the PSP in large numbers with each passing day.

“We will brighten the future of the youth and give them books instead of weapons.”

The PSP leader said it was time for everyone to should set aside their differences with each other and support the army which was ensuring the safety of the country on the borders.

Speaking about civic issues, Kamal said the local governments should be made functional and elected members must be given the chance to work.

The PSP leader also defended his party member Anis Qaimkhani saying that he was arrested in a fake case as he had never met with former minister Dr Asim Hussain and his party firmly believed in the supremacy of the law.
