Independence Day art contest to be held on Aug 13
Karachi
The provincial government would be hosting an art competition for students from Class 6 to Class 10 of all public and private schools as part of events planned for Independence Day celebrations.
A decision to this effect was taken on Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah’s directives and announced after a meeting chaired by Education Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar at the Sindh Secretariat on Sunday.
In the first phase of the event, students from all schools of the province can submit their entries with cover letters of their school heads to district education officers.
These officers would then shortlist two successful candidates – one from a public school and another from a private school – and forward their names to the respective regional directorates by August 10.
This would be followed by a live contest that would be held at the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi on August 13, a move that the education minister said would help make the contest a transparent and fair one.
The Arts Council of Pakistan would form a jury comprising artists of international reputation to decide the final winners.
As for the prizes, Dahar announced that the first, second and third place entries would receive cash awards of Rs100,000, Rs50,000 and Rs25,000, respectively, along with appreciation letters.
He added that CM Murad Ali Shah would be bearing the expenses of the cash prizes “out of his own pocket”.
The minster also said that all participants of the final competition would be rewarded cash prizes and appreciation letters.
Dahar said this competition was among a series of events planned to encourage the talents of Sindh and its children. Yesterday’s meeting was attended by Secretary Education Syed Mumtaz Ali Shah, Additional Secretary Mansoob Rizvi and all directors of the education department.
