MIRANSHAH: Seven suspected militants were killed when a US drone fired two missiles at their compound in the Lowara Mandi area of Dattakhel in the North Waziristan Agency (NWA) on Thursday.
Official and tribal sources said the drone fired two missiles at a house reportedly being used by the militants in the Lowara Mandi area of Dattakhel, 65 kilometres west of North Waziristan’s administrative town Miranshah. The identity of the slain militants could not be immediately confirmed due to lack of communications, though local tribesmen claimed all of them were foreign fighters.
North Waziristan has experienced the maximum number of drone strikes. There was, however, a noticeable decline after the military operation was launched that cleared residential areas such as Mir Ali and Miranshah of the militants. After they were expelled from the two major towns, the militants shifted to the mountainous Dattakhel and Shawal areas and have reportedly established their sanctuaries there.
