KARACHI: Restoration of Geo News to its original numbers began in Karachi on Saturday night with the help of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) teams, and six cable operators have restored Geo News to its previous numbers.
According to details, two days earlier, Geo News was placed by 16 cable operators on the last numbers in the metropolis. After a protest by journalists, civil society, lawyers, students and people from other walks of life across the country, Pemra came into action and Geo was moved back to its original numbers.
According to sources, Geo will be restored to the old numbers across the port city within the next 24 hours.
Earlier, Talking to Geo News, Pemra Chairman Absar Alam said action was being taken on the complaint of Geo News and the process of restoring the channel to its previous position had started.
He said the Pemra, fulfilling its responsibility, also wrote a letter to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. They had started action in the areas from where complaints were received under the Constitution, law and the Pemra Ordinance, Absar added.
He said that they wanted the supremacy of law and the Constitution in the country. The licensed TV channels and cable operators in case of any complaint should inform Pemra in writing so that swift action could be taken, he said.
Absar made it clear they did not have any animosity with any institution and only wanted to implement the law and the Constitution in the country.
