Chinese centre to become functional at UoP in Sept
PESHAWAR: The establishment of Chinese Study Centre at the University of Peshawar was materialized Thursday during the visit of Sun Weidong, Ambassador of the Republic of China, to varsity.
The ambassador met the Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan and presented cheque to the partner in the Chinese Language, Culture and Research Centre in UoP.
The centre would work under an independent director with the prime objective of encouraging and promoting research and Study on the Chinese language, history and culture.
Besides the centre would also play a role in strengthening the existing Pak-China people-to- people understanding and friendship. The centre would offer Chinese language courses, professional diploma and degree courses for research from September.
Besides, frequent exchange of students and faculty between UoP and Chinese universities would also take place to execute joint research projects in the respective fields of interest.
On the advent of China Pakistan Economic Corridor, the China Study Centre, UoP, would offer help to the local industrialists by equipping them with the Chinese research and language and offering professional diplomas and degree programs on their subject of interest, said Vice Chancellor UoP Prof Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan in his welcome address to the Chinese delegation.
He added the University of Peshawar has academic linkages with three Chinese Universities and would like to have exchange programmes with more varsities for projects of mutual benefits.
The establishment of a China Study Centre at a time when both the countries are celebrating 65th anniversary of diplomatic relationship is a milestone achievement, said Sun Weidong while talking on the occasion.
The ambassador said China advocates the principle of peaceful co-existence and respect the political system of every country. He added that the essence of the time tested Pak-China relations were based on common interest and respect for each other’s sovereignty.
He said the CPEC was in the stage of implementation. In the first step the establishment of one belt one road i.e, the construction of Karakorum Highway up to Gwadar would take place followed by Havelian Dry Port and Development of Gwadar Port.
