Lahore’s climate crisis
By News Desk
November 21, 2025
Lahore faces severe environmental challenges. Smog becomes a major issue during winter due to traffic emissions, industrial activity and crop burning around the city. Similar problems affect other major cities as their populations grow and pollution controls remain limited.
The government has undertaken several initiatives, such as installing more air quality monitors, conducting anti-smog operations and promoting tree planting. Plans also include cleaner transportation and stricter factory inspections. While these actions show progress, it seems that enforcement remains weak and the overall impact has yet to match the severity of the problem.
