FO likely to speak on Hasina’s conviction tomorrow
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is examining the verdict of an international tribunal that handed down death sentence to ousted Prime Minister Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina Wajid on Monday for crimes against humanity and involvement of killing of fellow countrymen.
Diplomatic sources told The News/Jang here Wednesday that the Foreign Office will articulate Pakistan’s position tomorrow (Friday) with regard to case of Sheikh Hasina Death sentence and Dhaka’s demand India for her extradition back to Bangladesh for administration of justice. The sources pointed out that Pakistan’s high commission in Dhaka has dispatched extensive report about the tribunal verdict and its reaction in that country to the headquarters here. “The communication is being studied and Pakistan’s position would be made public tomorrow,” the sources said. Interestingly, China is the first county that has offered reaction about Sheikh Hasina conviction and to a query in Chinese regular press briefing of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that sentencing the former Prime Minister to death is an internal and legal matter of Bangladesh. The sources reminded that Bangladesh High Representative for the Rohingya Issue Dr Khalilur Rahma dashed to New Delhi for meeting Indian Prime Minister’s National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajeet Doval but India hasn’t made any announcement about Sheikh Hasina as BD advisor has returned home. Bangladesh delegation to the seventh NSA-level meeting of the Colombo Security Conclave (CSC), was led by Dr Rahman. Bangladesh’s High Commissioner in Pakistan Muhammad Iqbal Hussain Khan, while talking to this correspondent on Wednesday, maintained that the whole world is aware of the case, while the demand for extradition is fully justified.
