Usman Khan vows to deliver for Pakistan
RAWALPINDI: Wicketkeeper-batsman Usman Khan expressed confidence, clarity and renewed determination as he addressed the media on Wednesday, emphasising that his focus remains firmly on consistency, fitness, and serving Pakistan cricket in whatever role the team requires.
Usman said he is fully committed to performing in every match rather than revealing any personal roadmap for the T20 World Cup. “I can’t disclose my plan for the T20 World Cup, my job is to give my best every time I step onto the field,” he remarked.
Usman, who recently featured in domestic competitions including red-ball cricket, said that stepping up his physical conditioning has been a major priority. “I worked a lot on my fitness because it was below standard. When your fitness is strong, wicketkeeping becomes much easier,” he said.
Having played several PSL matches in Rawalpindi, Usman said that experience at the venue has helped him refine his temperament. “Earlier I used to rush. Now I try to stay longer at the wicket and build my innings,” he said.
Responding to questions about his move from the UAE system to Pakistan cricket, Usman said: “I never thought I made a mistake by coming to Pakistan. I always believed I had to play for Pakistan. The UAE Cricket Board still has associate players, but my dream was clear.”
He also praised Pakistan’s first-choice wicketkeeper-batter. “Mohammad Rizwan is a legendary wicketkeeper who plays all three formats,” Usman said. “If I get a chance in the T20 World Cup, I will play my natural game.”
Usman revealed that the team management has prepared him for a middle-order role. “The coaches gave me a plan to bat at number five or six. I never worry about my batting number, even in domestic cricket I mostly play in the middle order,” he explained. Showing readiness to adapt, he said: “I am ready to play at any number the national management feels is right.”
