GIK Institute visit: CM announces 20 scholarships for students from merged districts
SWABI: Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi on Wednesday said announced 20 scholarships for the Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology students belonging to the merged districts
He expressed these views while presiding over the induction ceremony of Batch 35 of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan (GIK) Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology.The chief minister said he would soon hold a separate meeting with the GIK management to discuss and appreciate their ideas for the institute’s development.
The ceremony was attended by Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid, Rector GIK Institute and President SOPREST (Society for the Promotion of Engineering Sciences and Technology in Pakistan), Engr Salim Saifullah Khan, Executive Director Shakil Durrani, Prof Syed M Hassan Zaidi, Pro-Rector Academics and Finance, as well as directors, deans, department heads and students.
Afridi said he was pleased that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa had an institution like GIK, which he described as a symbol of national integration and a contributor to the country’s progress and prosperity. Students from across Pakistan study at the institute and later serve the nation, he added.
He said he was particularly happy to learn that merit and transparency were strictly upheld at GIK, and that 500 female students from different regions of the country were pursuing higher education in various disciplines.
The chief minister said the provincial government would ensure that no student’s education was disrupted due to financial constraints. “If you have any financial or other issues, the provincial government will support you,” he said. He added that any innovative or creative ideas presented by students would receive full support from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government.Afridi said GIK graduates represented Pakistan around the world, and those currently studying at the institute were preparing to play a similar role.
