Three motorway police officers die in M-5 accident

ISLAMABAD: Three officers of the National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) were martyred on duty near Uch Sharif on the M-5 Motorway when a passenger bus violently rear-ended their patrolling vehicle late Monday night, a spokesman for NH&MP Headquarters said Monday.

The officers, identified as Sub-Inspector Muhammad Mushtaq, Assistant Sub-Inspector Nasir Abbas, and Constable Usama Ali Gujjar, died instantly in the collision, which completely destroyed their official vehicle. The crash occurred when a passenger bus, traveling from Karachi to Peshawar, struck the rear of the NHMP vehicle as the officers were performing their official duties.

The funeral prayers for the three officers were offered at the Punjab Police Lines Headquarters in Multan. The ceremony drew a large gathering of citizens and hundreds of personnel from the Motorway Police and Punjab Police, reflecting the profound grief felt over the tragic loss.

Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and Inspector General, National Highways & Motorway Police, B.A. Nasir were among the senior officials in attendance. Other dignitaries included Additional IGP Central Region Saad Akhtar Bharwana, Additional IGP South Punjab Muhammad Kamran Khan, and Commissioner Multan Division Aamir Kareem Khan.

The martyrs were given a guard of honor and laid to rest with full state honors. Following the funeral, Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and IG Motorway Police B.A. Nasir met with the bereaved families to offer their heartfelt condolences.

Minister Aleem Khan praised the officers’ ultimate sacrifice, noting, “These brave sons sacrificed their lives for the safety of the nation; their great sacrifices will always be remembered, and their families will be supported in every possible way.”

IG B.A. Nasir emphasized the legacy of the fallen officers, saying, “The martyrs are our pride and their sacrifices will be written in golden words in the history of the Motorway Police.” The National Highways & Motorway Police expressed deep sympathy with the families, praying for the elevation of the martyrs’ ranks and strength for their loved ones.
