Rangers arrest extortion suspect in Malir raid
The Sindh Rangers on Monday arrested an extortion suspect during an intelligence-based operation in the Malir neighbourhood, according to a spokesperson for the paramilitary force.
The suspect, identified as Qasim alias Qaso, was allegedly involved in extortion and several other criminal activities. Rangers recovered a 30-bore pistol, a repeater, and a 12-bore double-barrel shotgun from his possession.
Officials said the suspect had previously been associated with various Lyari gang-war groups. During the initial interrogation, Qasim reportedly confessed to his involvement, along with accomplices, in multiple extortion and firing incidents in North Karachi, Lee Market, Malir Ghanchi Market, and Korangi. Raids were underway to arrest his remaining associates.
The arrested suspect and the recovered weapons had been handed over to police for further legal action. The Rangers spokesperson urged citizens to report any information regarding criminal elements to the nearest Rangers checkpost, helpline 1101, or the Rangers Madadgar WhatsApp number, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
