AMTI moves to boost healthcare and training facilities

ABBOTTABAD: The Board of Governors (BoG) of the Ayub Medical Teaching Institution (AMTI) has finalized a series of decisions aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery, expanding patient access, and improving training opportunities for medical staff.

Chaired by BoG Chairman Prof Dr Abid Jamil, the meeting held here on Sunday focused on operationalizing the Institutional-Based Private Practice (IBPP), addressing concerns of postgraduate trainees, and launching new community outreach initiatives.

The BoG reviewed and approved the framework for the IBPP, designed to provide patients with quality specialist consultations within the hospital.Prof Dr Abid Jamil announced the preparation of upgraded IBPP consultation rooms, with additional facilities under development.

A dedicated monitoring committee will oversee doctor participation, ensure transparency, and maintain service standards.It was decided that IBPP services would operate daily after 3:00 pm, ensuring smooth coordination between regular duties and private practice. The chairman directed the Pathology Department and the hospital director to immediately resolve issues related to pathology kits to avoid any disruption in diagnostic services.

Earlier, in a separate session, the BoG chairman met postgraduate trainees from the Plastic Surgery and Neurosurgery departments to address operational challenges.Responding to their concerns, Dr Jamil issued a clear directive that the emergency operating theatre must remain functional 24/7 to ensure uninterrupted critical and trauma care.

Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving clinical facilities, he announced an allocation of Rs180 million for upgrading the Neurosurgery Department, along with ongoing development in other units. He further confirmed that the Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) and clinical audit functions would be activated soon to strengthen institutional performance.

ATH is launching a new outreach initiative under which medical teams will visit rural communities for patient examinations. Those requiring advanced treatment will be transported to ATH for priority care.

The hospital also plans to offer MRI and CT scans at highly affordable rates to broaden public access to diagnostic services.“Our postgraduate trainees are the frontline heroes of this institution,” said Dr Abid Jamil. “Providing them with a supportive, world-class learning environment remains our highest priority as we advance our academic and administrative reforms.”
