JPMC Executive Director : Dr Shahid Rasool passes away due to cardiac arrest
Prof Dr Shahid Rasool, executive director of Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), passed away on Friday after suffering a sudden heart attack. According to his family and hospital officials, he was immediately shifted to a private hospital but doctors could not save his life.
Dr Rasool was 59 years old and was due to retire in June 2026. He was appointed as the JPMC executive director in 2021 by the Sindh health department after the retirement of the late Dr Seemin Jamali.
During his tenure, he introduced several administrative reforms and development projects, significantly improving services at one of the country’s largest public hospitals.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah expressed sorrow over Dr Rasool’s demise stating that he was “among the best surgeons in Pakistan” and his contributions to public health care would always be remembered.
The CM prayed for high ranks for the departed soul and patience for the bereaved family. Abdul Rasheed Channa, a spokesperson for the CM, also termed Dr Rasool’s death a major loss for the health sector and praised him for being a dedicated, hardworking and exemplary administrator whose services would be remembered for years. The medical community, JPMC staff and his students also expressed profound grief over his death.
