KARACHI: Pakistan’s former athlete and senior athletics coach Muhammad Talib has announced that Athletics Fitness School (AFS) which had been closed for the past few months has resumed operations.

Speaking to The News on Wednesday, Talib said that he has appointed national athlete Haris Arshad as the coach of AFS. He added that aspiring and new athletes seeking coaching and guidance in athletics, as well as those looking to improve their fitness for other sports, can visit AFS daily to receive free training and coaching in athletics and physical fitness at the gymnasium.

AFS is one of the most prestigious athletics centres in the country, having produced a number of national and international athletes under the leadership of Talib. The AFS has organised summer coaching and training camps for school children and other athletes for more than four decades. It has produced several international-level athletes who won medals for the country, along with hundreds of athletes who have competed nationally.

Talib said that due to certain domestic problems, he was unable to give proper attention to AFS, which led to its temporary closure for the past few months. However, it has now been reopened and will operate in the evenings from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm daily except Sunday. Talib said he will also be present at the school to supervise and assist athletes.
