Fight terror in all forms, emphasises Russian team
ISLAMABAD: A visiting Russian parliamentary delegation condemned the November 11 suicide attack at the judicial complex in Islamabad and emphasised the need to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.
The statement comes as Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev and Deputy Chairman of Russia’s State Duma Alexander Babakov met Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani on the sidelines of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference here.
The conference brought together parliamentary leaders from across the world to discuss legislative cooperation, dialogue and issues of peace, security and development.
The Russian delegation thanked the Pakistani leadership, especially Gillani, for the invitation and warm welcome, and expressed its readiness for further cooperation. The Senate chairman shared fond memories of his visit to Russia in May and his discussions with Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko.
Both sides emphasised the importance of parliamentary cooperation in complementing the efforts of traditional diplomacy to resolve global conflicts. Konstantin Kosachev also met Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference Secretary General Ek Nath Dhakal.
The two discussed prospects for strengthening interparliamentary cooperation within the framework of the ISC and related formats.
