Pakistan cricketers laud Sri Lanka’s decision to stay
Islamabad: Pakistan cricketers have hailed the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Board and touring players for their “historic and sportsmanlike” decision to stay and complete their international commitments in Pakistan, calling it a victory for cricket, unity, and the enduring friendship between the two nations.
In a special video message shared by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), ODI captain Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Rizwan, Salman Ali Agha, Haris Rauf, and Abrar Ahmed lauded the Sri Lankan team’s “brave and commendable” decision to continue the tour despite uncertainty, terming it a shining example of sports diplomacy and mutual respect.
“It is indeed a welcoming and heartening gesture,” said captain Shaheen Shah Afridi. “The decision by the Sri Lankan players and board to stay back and complete the tour reflects their trust and love for Pakistan. On behalf of the entire team and nation, I thank them for showing such faith and solidarity. Now it’s time for our fans to respond. I urge spectators to fill the stands in Rawalpindi and make this series a celebration of cricket and friendship.”
Echoing his captain’s sentiments, Salman Ali Agha said, “We are deeply grateful to the Sri Lankan board and players for their cooperation and spirit. Their support means a lot for Pakistan cricket. I hope fans will turn up in large numbers to show appreciation and make this series a memorable one.”
Mohammad Rizwan emphasized the emotional bond between the two cricketing nations. “Sri Lanka has always stood by Pakistan in difficult times. Their decision to stay is not just about cricket, it’s about brotherhood and belief. Cricket has once again emerged victorious,” he said.
