Margalla Highway extension cost revised to Rs6.68bn
ISLAMABAD: The government has revised the cost of extending Margalla Highway from GT Road Sangjani to Motorway-1 at Rs6.681 billion.
Official documents available with The News on Wednesday revealed that the scope of the project to be executed by the NHA was to be started after Sangjani grid station, which includes semi-directional ramps on Shahrah-Mehr Road, a bridge on the Bahuda Kas water channel, with Quaid-e-Azam Road (in AWT housing society).
Re-modelling of the existing Sangjani /AWT interchange, along with service roads on both sides, will also be part of the NHA’s scope of work.
The federal government has approved the extension of Margalla Highway from the GT Road (N-5) to the Motorway (M-1), providing commuters in Islamabad with a direct link to the motorway network. The new route will also serve as an alternative corridor for traffic entering Islamabad and Rawalpindi from the motorway, helping to avoid congestion at Chungi No. 26 on Srinagar Highway, which often remains blocked during political protests.
