Home dept calls threat alert on social media ‘fake’
Panic spread in Karachi on Wednesday when a threat alert letter circulated on social media regarding terrorism activities at public places, especially at malls, but the Sindh Home Department denied such a threat alert and called it fake and fabricated.
As per officials of the home department, reports on various media outlets and social media about a threat alert were fake, fabricated and baseless.
All genuine security advisories, alerts and notifications are issued exclusively through official channels of the home department or through legally authorized law enforcement agencies; therefore, any letter, document or message circulating through these channels should be considered as unauthentic and misleading, said the officials.
The home department said in a explanatory statement that the public and the media are requested to avoid sharing such misleading, fabricated and fake content-based letters or news and consider it a national duty to follow the rules and regulations.
