‘Notorious Katcha dacoit’, his son killed in Sukkur police encounter

Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Wednesday congratulated the Sukkur DIG and his team on displaying utmost bravery and courage in the ongoing operation against dacoits and killing notorious dacoit Sultan Shah along his son in a police encounter.

Sultan Shah had surrendered in the past under the surrender policy, but after his release from jail, he returned to the world of crime. The Sindh government had announced a head money of Rs2 million upon Sultan Shah.

Lanjar said the courageous actions of the police had demoralized the criminal elements, gangs and dacoits and their facilitators, while the morale of the police had been raised. “I strongly hope that you will continue the action against crime and further enhance the reputation and good name of the Sindh police.”

Sultan Shah, considered a symbol of terror in upper Sindh, was killed along with his son Habdaar Shah in a police encounter. Police said there was a fierce exchange of fire between police and dacoits in the limits of the C-Section police station in Sukkur, as a result of which Sultan Shah and his son Habdaar Shah were killed. Police constable Fazal Bhutto was also seriously injured and is receiving medical attention.

According to initial reports, the accused opened fire during a robbery in the Rohri area, injuring a young boy, Faizan Sheikh, who is now out of danger. On receiving information about the incident, the police took immediate action and pursued the accused. When the police tried to stop the accused’s car in the limits of the C-Section police station in the Old Sukkur area, they opened fire on the police. As a result of the retaliatory fire, the father and his son died on the spot.

The DIG has received a complete report and issued orders for immediate action to provide the injured policeman Fazal Bhutto with the best possible treatment. He congratulated SSP Azhar Mughal and his team for their timely and brave action and said this success of the police force is an important milestone in protecting the lives and property of citizens.

The killed dacoit Sultan Shah was a dangerous and notorious dacoit, against whom more than 48 serious cases, including rape, extortion, dacoity, kidnapping for ransom and police encounters, were registered in different police stations. A price of Rs2 million was set on his head, while a reward of Rs5 million was also proposed to the Home Department.

DIG Sukkur Range Captain (retd) Faisal Abdullah Chachar said the police force is active at all times for the protection of the public. No concession will be made to those elements who, despite surrendering, will re-enter the world of crime. The purpose of the surrender policy is reform, but whoever is involved in crimes again after this will not be able to escape the clutches of the law.
