A young Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) worker was gunned down in what police suspect to be a targeted attack in Orangi Town. The victim, identified as 23-year-old Shoaib Iqbal, was a member of the social media team of Orangi Town Chairman Haji Jameel Zia.

According to police, the incident took place near Shisha Wali Masjid in Sector 11.5, Yaqoobabad, within the jurisdiction of the Iqbal Market police station on the night between Sunday and Monday.

Shoaib was on his way home when armed assailants lying in wait opened fire on him. A bullet struck him in the chest, causing his instant death. Police said the attackers managed to flee after the shooting. Iqbal’s body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and later moved to the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth after medico-legal formalities.

Investigators revealed that Shoaib was involved in a monetary dispute over a car transaction with local residents. He had purchased an Alto car but allegedly owed Rs150,000, which led to tensions between the parties.

Police said the suspects had also filed a case against Shoaib some time ago, while Shoaib had registered a counter-case against them over the same dispute. Following the incident, police conducted a raid and arrested one suspect, identified as Nadeem, for questioning. A case has been registered and investigations are under way.
