Measures being taken to protect journalists’ rights: Tarar
ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar told the National Assembly on Wednesday that the government was taking all possible measures to safeguard the rights of media workers.He made these remarks on the floor of the house while responding to a walkout by reporters from the Parliament’s Press Gallery. Expressing concern over the dismissal of media employees by certain media houses,
Tarar said the issue would be taken up in the scheduled meeting with the Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) and All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) next week. He assured that a permanent solution would be devised to address the matter.
The minister also announced that journalists whose services were terminated by the digital media platform Nukta would be employed within the next 48 hours.
Regarding the police raid on the National Press Club in Islamabad, he said a detailed report on the incident would be finalised by Thursday (today).
He said that he had also held a meeting with a delegation of the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) in which the issue of unlawful dismissals of media workers was discussed.Meanwhile, the government introduced five bills in the house.
These include “The West Pakistan Motor Vehicles Taxation (Amendment) Bill, 2025,” “The Islamabad Capital Territory Local Government (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025,” “The Standard Time (Interpretation of References) (Amendment) Bill, 2025,” “The Public Private Partnership Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2025,” and “The Income Tax (Third Amendment) Bill, 2025.”
