Elders demand transfer of police officials

TIMERGARA: A jirga of Usakhel tribe on Friday demanded chief minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and inspector general of police to immediately transfer the district police officer (DPO) for misbehaving with the elders at his office at Balambat.

The Jirga was held at Malakabad which was attended by hundreds of Usakhel tribe’s people from Khema, Kandaro, Mirzabad, Malakabad, Andheri, Manogi, Balambat, Timergara, Khungi and Sado villages.

Speaking on the occasion, Malik Ali Bakht, Malik Bakhtawar Jan, Malik Farooq Iqbal, Malik Bashir Khan, Malik Abdul Sattar and others said that the elders visited the office of DPO Lower Dir requesting him to lodge FIR against those who took the law into their own hands and fired with gun shots at the excavator constructing road at Jabagai village.

“We provided a free-of-cost piece of land worth millions of rupees to link the state land owned by the Lower Dir district administration at Dherai village with the general road but the administration failed to construct the road as the police force withdrew from the site when a few law breaches resorted to straight fire on police force and the assistant commissioner at Jabagai,” one of the elders He added that when they visited the office of the DPO at Balambat to request him to register FIR against those violated the law, the DPO came out of his office ordering police force to baton-charge and arrest the elders who threatened to stage protest against him.The elders announced to mobilize the tribe’s people in the area to stage a protest against the DPO till action is taken against him.
