Five candidates in the run for Senate by-polls from KP
PESHAWAR: Five candidates are in the run for a general seat in the Senate from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, as the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued the final list of contenders for the by-polls.
The seat fell vacant following the disqualification of Shibli Faraz, a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader. The by-polls for the vacant slot will be held on October 30. According to the final list issued by the ECP, the candidates contesting the seat in the Upper House include Khurram Zeeshan, Irfan Saleem, Nisar Khan, Taj Muhammad Afridi, and Abid Yousafzai.
As per the ECP list, Nisar Khan is the candidate of the Pakistan People’s Party, while the other four are independent candidates. The PTI is supporting Khurram Zeeshan for the seat, while Irfan Saleem is his covering candidate.
The ECP has also announced that the by-polls in NA-18 Haripur will be held on November 23, while candidates will be allotted election symbols on November 6.
