Jobless father-of-six kills two daughters in North Nazimabad
In a shocking incident, a man allegedly slit the throats of his two daughters in North Nazimabad’s Kausar Niazi Colony on Tuesday morning.
According to police, the suspect, identified as Akbar, son of Abdus Sattar, killed his daughters -- 11-year-old Alia and 10-year-old Zainab – at their home. He was immediately taken into custody along with the weapon and shifted to the police station.
The suspect is a father of six children - five daughters and one son. The deceased girls were the third and fourth among the siblings. Speaking to the media after the incident, the suspect’s eldest daughter said, “Our father killed them mercilessly. He should be hanged. Everyone was asleep at around 6am when he attacked them with a knife and slit their throats.” She added that the her two slain sisters were unmarried, while the remaining three sisters are married.
Before the police arrived, enraged neighbours severely beat up Akbar after learning about the incident. According to police, residents, infuriated by the brutal killings, attacked the suspect and continued to assault him until officers reached the scene and rescued him.
Hyderi Market Police Station SHO Adeel Ahmed said the police received information about the incident at around 7am and immediately reached the scene. “The arrested suspect Akbar killed his two daughters by slitting their throats in a brutal manner. He was arrested from the scene and the murder weapon was recovered,” he said.
During the initial interrogation, the suspect claimed that he was driven to commit the act due to unemployment and financial hardships. “The preliminary investigation suggests the motive behind the killings appears to be economic distress, but the investigation is still in its early stages,” the SHO added.
He further said that the suspect’s wife had passed away about three years ago. At the time of the incident, Akbar’s elder daughter, Rukhsana, was present on the ground floor of the house. When she learned that her father had gone upstairs and killed her two younger sisters by slitting their throats, she began screaming. Hearing her cries, neighbours rushed to the scene, realized what had happened, and gathered at the house. They managed to catch the suspect before the police arrived. Police have collected evidence from the crime scene and launched a formal investigation into the case.
Short-term kidnapping
The Boat Basin police arrested two suspects involved in a series of short-term kidnappings for ransom while posing as army officers, officials said on Tuesday.
According to the police, the arrested men were identified as Talal Afser alias Major Zafar, son of Afser Siddiqui, and Imam Bakhsh, son of Sadiq. The police recovered two 30-bore pistols with loaded magazines, an Audi car, four wireless walkie-talkie sets, three bulletproof jackets, and four mobile phones from their possession.
During initial interrogation, the suspects confessed to posing as fake army officers and kidnapping citizens for ransom along with their accomplices. They also admitted to extorting Rs8 million from a complainant, Tajuddin, in two installments, a case already registered at Tipu Sultan police station.
The suspects were also wanted in FIR No. 807/25 registered at the Boat Basin police station under sections of the Telegraph Act, 506, and 25-D. Officials added that Afser had previously been declared a proclaimed offender by courts in cases registered at the Super Market and Gulshan-e-Iqbal police stations.
