Trophy to be handed over only at public ceremony, ACC tells BCCI
KARACHI: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that the Asia Cup 2025 winner’s trophy will only be handed over in a formal public ceremony, and will not be sent privately, sources confirmed on Tuesday.
According to reliable sources, the BCCI has written two letters to the ACC requesting the handover of the trophy, which Indian officials refused to receive from ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi following the final in Dubai last month.
“The BCCI wrote twice to Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the ACC,” a source familiar with the matter said. “The ACC responded that if India wants to receive the trophy, it must do so at a formal function in the presence of media representatives at the ACC office next month.”
The ACC has proposed November 10 as the tentative date for the ceremony, where BCCI officials — along with a member of the Indian cricket team — will be invited to receive the trophy from the ACC chairman.
India defeated Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final in Dubai, but the post-match ceremony took an unusual turn when Indian officials declined to accept the trophy from Naqvi, reportedly due to his Pakistani nationality. Following India’s refusal, the trophy was moved to the ACC headquarters in Dubai, where it has remained ever since.
