HEC’s Balochistan member objects to process for executive director’s appointment
Dr Ehsanullah Kakar, a member of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) from Balochistan and the vice chancellor (VC) of the Loralai University, has demanded that the process of selecting the HEC executive director be postponed until a permanent chairman of the commission has been appointed.
He said that in a previous meeting of the HEC, he objected to the ongoing process of selecting the executive director and directors general and stressed that these processes should be stopped until the appointment of a new HEC chairman.
Dr Kakar said that although this matter was not on the agenda of the meeting, he raised the point in the interest of transparency and good governance, and warned that if the process of appointing the executive director was not stopped, it may lead to litigation, which would not only further delay the process but also damage the HEC’s reputation. The process of appointing a permanent chairman is also currently under way in the HEC, and candidates are being shortlisted for the post.
