Gandapur reaches hometown

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur vacated the official residence and moved to his hometown on Friday, though his resignation had yet to be accepted, even on the third day after it was written and posted on social media.

Gandapur travelled to Dera Ismail Khan a day after hosting a dinner for all KP Assembly members. Upon his arrival, people in his constituency warmly welcomed him and showered flower petals on him.

He had announced his resignation on Wednesday on the directives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, after the nomination of Sohail Afridi as the new chief minister.

As per rules, the outgoing chief minister must submit his resignation to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor, who may either accept it or return it with objections.

Gandapur had stated that he had formally sent his resignation after posting it on social media, but no official confirmation of its acceptance was available till Friday night.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi was in Islamabad on Friday, where he held meetings with political leaders, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman. Earlier on Thursday, the governor had said that his office had not yet received the resignation.
