Non-arrest of accused in lawyer murder case protested
CHARSADDA: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) on Tuesday announced a sit-in protest against the authorities’ failure to arrest the station house officer accused in the murder of a local lawyer.
The family had nominated SHO Behramand Shah as the main accused in the murder case of Mian Asim Advocate last month. An emergency meeting of JI Charsadda was held at Markaz Islami on Parang Road under the chairmanship of acting district head Shah Zaman Advocate. The participants condemned the police for allegedly interfering in the case, tampering with the case file, and attempting to shield the accused. They also criticised the deputy commissioner and District Police Officer (DPO) for their lack of cooperation, demanding their immediate transfer from the district.
Addressing the meeting, Shah Zaman announced that JI would stage a sit-in outside the District Police Office on Friday, September 26, which would continue until the arrest of SHO Behramand Shah. To mobilise support, meetings will be held across all tehsils of Charsadda, while an All-Parties Conference is scheduled for Wednesday. The party also vowed to contact traders’ unions to join the protest.
The meeting further condemned the removal of banners and flexes displaying the accused SHO’s pictures from Ghani Khan Road by the police. JI leaders pledged to display such banners across the district as part of their campaign for justice.
