‘PSB centre needs concrete wall, drainage system’
KARACHI: The administration of the National Coaching Centre (NCC) in Karachi has informed the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) headquarters in Islamabad about the collapse of its front wall due to urban flooding.
In a communiqué, the administration stressed that comprehensive engineering work is required to resolve the issue, as the wall has collapsed three times in recent years during heavy rains. According to sources, the NCC administration explained that the centre is located in a low-lying area where rainwater rushes in at high speed and accumulates in front of the wall. The existing wall has been unable to withstand the pressure. The administration has recommended the construction of a concrete wall with pillars and a strong foundation, supported by a proper drainage system to divert rainwater. They noted that without such measures, the wall will continue to collapse whenever intense rains occur.
It was further highlighted that rainwater reaches the NCC from multiple directions. The administration also pointed out that heavy traffic on Sir Shah Suleman Road worsens the situation. Passing trucks, buses, dumpers, and loaders create waves as high as four to five feet, which crash against the wall and increase the pressure. Experts have warned that Pakistan could face up to a 22 percent increase in rainfall next year.
