Centre, KP govt extending support to flood victims: Kundi
DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi on Sunday expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for providing financial assistance to flood victims, saying that both federal and provincial governments were actively working to support and rehabilitate affected families.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Commissioner’s Office for the distribution of relief cheques announced by the prime minister, the governor said every possible effort would be made to ensure that no negligence occurs in the rehabilitation of victims.
The event was attended by Chairman of the National Assembly’s Defence Committee Sardar Fathullah Khan Miyankhel, Commissioner DI Khan Division Zafarul Islam Khattak, JUIF representative Kafeel Ahmad Nizami, PMLN leaders Rehan Malik Advocate, Chaudhry Riaz Advocate, Rasheed Wazir, and Malik Farhan Afzal Dhap, among others.
Kundi said the loss of human lives in floods was a shared grief, and though the deceased could not be brought back, financial assistance could provide some relief to their families.
Later, talking to the media, he said that all political parties had expressed sorrow over the devastation caused by recent rains and floods. He recalled that the federal government had announced Rs 2 million compensation for victims, which was being implemented. He added that Swat, Buner, and Bajaur had suffered the worst damage, while D.I. Khan was comparatively less affected.
“Natural calamities are not occasions for politics; instead, we must focus on relief and rehabilitation,” he maintained. He noted that businesses and homes had been destroyed, with Buner alone reporting more than 400 deaths and many missing persons.
