Two cops injured in Kohat attack
KOHAT: Two policemen were injured when terrorists opened fire on cops during a search operation in Kerosaam area of Lachi tehsil, officials said on Thursday.
The officials said that the militants targeted the policemen on Shakardarra Road, injuring two cops identified as Khalid Usman and Umar Khan. The injured cops were shifted to a nearby hospital, where their condition was stated to be out of danger.
Regional Police Officer (RPO), Kohat region, Abbas Majid Marwat told reporters that the incident occurred during a search operation launched after Thursday night’s terrorist attack in Banda Daud Shah area of Karak district, in which three policemen were martyred. Following that attack, he said, the terrorists were seen fleeing towards the Lachi area of Kohat.
During the operation, he said, terrorists hiding in the nearby mountains opened fire on security personnel, injuring the two policemen. “A large-scale operation is now underway in the mountainous border area between Kohat and Karak,” he added.
Authorities confirmed that several suspects have been taken into custody and shifted to undisclosed locations for interrogation, while the search for the attackers in the mountainous terrain continues.
