ANP leader shot dead in Swabi
SWABI: Former MPA of the Awami National Party (ANP) Haji Shoaib Khan was shot dead by unidentified men in Yarhussain area here Monday morning.
According to police sources, unknown armed motorcycle riders opened indiscriminate firing on Shoaib when he was present at his hujra in Yarhussain village of tehsil Chota Lahore in Swabi. As a result of firing, Shoaib sustained multiple injuries and was shifted to LRH in Peshawar in critical condition where he succumbed to his wounds. Police said apparently it was an incident of targeted attack. Police have registered FIR and launched raids to arrest the attackers.
Shoaib was a dedicated nationalist leader and follower of Abdul Ghaffar Khan (Bacha Khan). He was also considered Baba-i-Swabi following death of former ANP leader and parliamentarian Haji Rahmanullah. ANP leadership has announced 10 days of mourning.
Meanwhile, CTD Monday arrested a wanted terrorist and recovered two bombs from his possession. The CTD team reacting to an intelligence report started snap checking at Ring Road Achini Cross locality of Peshawar. During operation a terrorist identified as Sher Rehman was arrested along with two locally manufactured bombs.
The detainee was wanted by LEAs in several incidents of terrorism target killings and receiving extortion money. The detainee was being interrogated and according to sources important revelations and more arrests were expected.
