Karachi
Keeping up with the initiative to transform Karachi into a greener metropolis, the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH) will begin a city wide plantation drive from July 21.
According to a statement on Monday, around 15,000 saplings will be sown in various parts of the city during the current monsoon season. Commissioner Karachi, Ejaz Ahmed would inaugurate the drive.
In collaboration with World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Defence Housing Authority (DHA) will also be holding a plantation drive from July 25 in which around 25,000 plants will be planted within DHA to be followed by 100,000 plants in different projects of DHA City.
Similarly, a comprehensive plantation campaign – ‘Greener DHA’ – is being initiated by the Defence Housing Authority (DHA) in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
During the plantation campaign, slated to start from July 25, a total of 25,000 plants of different species will be planted all over DHA, while 100,000 plants will also be planted in all upcoming projects of DHA City Karachi.
The campaign would be focused on increasing greenery in the entire DHA area and plans for the activity were discussed at a meeting of relevant stakeholders that was held at the DHA headquarters on July 16 and was presided by DHA Administrator Brigadier Zubair Ahmed. A seminar on ‘Greener DHA’ will be held by the end of this month at the DHA Country and Golf Club in which representatives of different horticulture departments, horticulturalists, landscape specialists and experts will highlight the importance of trees and recommend appropriate species for fruitful plantation.
The meeting participants, who included representatives of the WWF, National Fund for Environment and Horticulture, Sindh Horticulture Department, CBC and Horticulture Society of Pakistan, discussed the modalities and details of the ‘Go Green DHA’ campaign and worked towards finalising an effective strategy for achieving the set objectives.
