Due share for KP in CPEC sought
CHARSADDA: Convenor of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Committee of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Dr Said Alam Mahsud on Sunday vowed not to accept the project unless the province was given its due share and role.
Addressing a convention on the CPEC route at Tehsil Municipal Hall here, he said the province had no say in the utilisation of its resources despite obtaining provincial autonomy. “The next generations will not forgive us if we kept mum over the issue,” he said.
He urged the people of the province to ‘wake up’ and make a struggle for their rights allegedly usurped by the larger federating unit of the country.Among others Faqir Hussain of Qaumi Watan Party, Amjad Ali Salar of Mazdoor Kissan Party and Awami National Party’s Mian Saleem Shah spoke on the occasion.
Dr Said Alam Mahsud lamented that a few people considered Punjab as the only and sole beneficiary of every development project launched in Pakistan. Other speakers demanded due share and role for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the mega economic project. They warned the provincial and federal governments of consequences if the issue was not resolved amicably.
They maintained that the people of the province were kept out to reap the benefits of CPEC project under a conspiracy. “We are making it clear to the Centre that the people of KP would render every sacrifice to safeguard own rights,” said one of the speakers. The speakers explained that the committee’s struggle was not only limited to safeguard the rights of people of the KP but they also represented Gilgit-Baltistan, Fata and Balochistan.
