HCP renamed as Edhi Hockey Stadium
KARACHI: Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has renamed Hockey Club of Pakistan as Abdul Sattar Edhi Hockey Stadium to acknowledge his welfare work.
PHF president Brig Khalid Khokhar stated that Edhi was a great humanitarian.
Edhi masterminded Pakistan’s biggest charitable organisation single handedly and ran it entirely with private donations.
His success story is an inspiration for Pakistan hockey, especially in present times when the national game is in dire straits, said Khokhar and added that PHF believed that renaming of the biggest hockey stadium in the country would be the most appropriate way to pay tribute to the legend.
The stadium has a rich history in Pakistan hockey. Recently its flood lights were overhauled and a blue turf had been installed a year or so ago.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that PHF would organise a ceremony in which the stadium will be formally renamed. Edhi’s name plate will be installed at the stadium.
The new floodlights will be tested on Tuesday. It had to be done on July 8, but due to Eid-ul Fitr the exercise was delayed. An official said that 800 new seats had been installed, while 500 had been repaired.
