UN conference: Pakistan calls for credible action, irreversible process to actualise two-state solution

KARACHI: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said on Monday Pakistan would continue to support the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, calling for recognizing Palestine as a full member of the United Nations.

Addressing a UN conference on the two-state solution, hosted by Saudi Arabia and France, he said Gaza has become a graveyard of international law and humanitarian principles, where over 58,000 innocent Palestinians, including women and children, have been killed and every red line has been crossed.

Deputy Prime Minister Dar appreciated Saudi Arabia and France for hosting the conference, saying that the question of Palestine remained unresolved despite the passage of 75 years.

He demanded that Israeli forces withdraw from Gaza immediately and the Palestinians be given access to food and medical supplies. He also demanded an end to war crimes in Gaza, stressing that the impunity with which these crimes are being committed must end.Dar reiterated Pakistan’s support for an independent Palestinian state under pre-1967 borders with Al Quds as its capital, saying that the two-state solution was the only path to lasting peace in the region.

He said his country condemned Israeli parliament’s attempt to assert sovereignty over the occupied territory in Gaza. Blocking of aid and targeting of civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and refugee camps, cross every red line of humanity and legality. “This must stop now and we should immediately act with purpose.”

Dar called for credible action for an immediate and unconditional ceasefire across Gaza and all other Palestinian territories, implementation of Resolution 2375, provision of humanitarian aid, especially life-saving food and medicine, and protection of humanitarian teams. He extended support for UNRWA, calling it a lifeline for millions of Palestinians.

He also called for the initiation of a genuine and irreversible political process to actualize the two-state solution. He said the Palestinian question is the test case for the UN and the world. He called on the UN conference to deliver on its commitment to the two-state solution.
