Rawal Dam’s spillways to reopen today
Islamabad:Following heavy rains, the spillways of Rawal Dam were opened to release extra water here Sunday.
The authorities concerned said that spillways were opened for six and half hours after the water level reached 1748 feet above. The exercise was carried out to avert breach of dam which supplies water to Rawalpindi city and cantonment. There was reduction of water level to 1746 feet till the time spillways were shut.
The dam authorities added that spillways would also be opened at 6am today (Monday) for five hours to release extra water. The sources said that water continues to inflow from catchment areas.
Assistant Commissioner, Rescue 1122 and other officials were put on alert before opening the spillways on Sunday. All the bridges on Korang Nullah were continuously monitored in the process.
