How Royal children are raised differently: Strict rules they follow
Interesting Royal family protocols that need to be followed by Royal children
It is not only the British Royal family members who have to abide by the rules of Royalty but even the kids born into the royal family.
Beneath the polished image and fancy outfits, there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes and the royal kids have a long list of expectations to meet and a strict code of conduct that needs to be followed.
Prince William and Princess Kate, and their three children have been in the public eye for a very long time and that spotlight came with royal protocol: a strict set of rules.
As a part of the Royal family, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, despite being young, have to follow the royal protocol.
Here is a list of some rules that they need to follow:
Learn a Foreign Language
Due to their association with Royalty, it is mandatory for them to learn at least one foreign language and this goes for every member of the royal family.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ father Prince of Wales has learned many languages like French, Swahili, Welsh, and Gaelic, other than English.
Their mother Kate Middleton can speak some Italian but can talk in French with fluency.
With their parents speaking different languages, the children have followed their steps and are learning Spanish.
No Shared Flights
Although Prince William and Princess Kate often fly with their children, royal protocol actually discourages having two heirs travelling together on the same flight.
This rule exists to protect the line of succession, in case of a tragic event. However, since 2024, Prince George has abided by this tradition and often flies separately.
Mandatory Passport and Driver’s License
Since they are constantly on the move, they need to have a passport as early on as possible but must begin driving lessons as soon as they are eligible.
Board Games Restrictions
During an interview with the List, Prince Andrew admitted that the board game Monopoly was off-limits in the royal household, revealing, "We’re not allowed to play Monopoly at home. It gets too vicious."
Although board games aren’t officially banned, they are definitely discouraged to keep peace in the Royal family.
Boys can only wear shorts till a certain age
In the Royal household, once royal boys turn eight years old, it is time for them to remove shorts from their wardrobe and only wear trousers.
Girls need to wear dress for official engagements
Just like the boys, girls of the royal family also have to follow a fashion rule. They are expected to wear dresses during official royal outings.
Serve at Royal weddings
It is a Royal tradition for young Royals to take part in bridal parties. This was highlighted at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding where Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s presence remains to be unforgettable.
Baby Food, Pre-Packaged Food, or Shellfish is prohibited
Unsurprisingly, the royal protocol also applies to the food they consume. Packed snacks and baby food are a no go in the Royal household. With private chefs on call, every bite is fresh and tailored to their liking. And just like the adults, shellfish is also off the menu to avoid getting sick from food.
